The government should be taking responsibility for creating the necessary awareness regarding EVs to the general consensus. Not everyone is aware of electric vehicles. One way of promoting this change would be venturing into the advertising industry. Modern time advertisements are extremely influential and refreshingly useful to create a stir in the viewers. Government should also impose laws regarding the change of automobiles and lifestyle and gradually ban the conventional vehicles that run on petrol and diesel. A new study shows that petrol and diesel vehicles can be converted into electric vehicles. Instead of purchasing an electric vehicle which is a very expensive business, the vehicles can now be converted into EVs by changing some equipment. It is legal as the authorities have granted permission for it. It is an effort to make the vehicles more environment-friendly. This can save the environment from pollution.

Some of the policies include European Union CO2 emissions regulation for cars and vans, China’s New Energy Vehicles (NEV) mandate and California’s Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate. The lessons learnt and advances made in automotive and battery technology can help profit countries that currently deploy a limited number of electric cars to support the production and uptake of EVs. Product innovation and the expertise developed in the charging services industry will also be beneficial for emerging economies. More than 20 nations, including developing nations like Cabo Verde, Costa Rica, and Sri Lanka, have announced plans to completely phase out the sale of cars with internal combustion engines (ICE) over the course of the next 10 to 30 years. Additionally, more than 120 nations (representing around 85% of the world’s road vehicle fleet, excluding two- and three-wheelers) have made economy-wide net-zero emissions commitments with the goal of achieving net zero in the next few decades. Commercial vehicles—light-commercial cars, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and buses—have an increasing and disproportionate impact on energy use, air pollution, and CO2 emissions. Hence policy attention and actions need to be expanded to include them. The first country to suggest a ZEV sales requirement for heavy-duty trucks was California in 2020. Beginning in 2024, the Advanced Clean Truck Regulation will go into force. Zero-emission commercial vehicle zones are being implemented by the Netherlands and a few other nations, who are also leading deployment initiatives. In a declaration from the prime minister in October 2020, Japan declared its goal to become carbon neutral by 2050.

India has also advanced in terms of making amendments and policies for implementing the use of EVs. The Central government of India has made several promotional measures in the past decade to assist the acceptance of EVs into the country. It includes tax incentives and reasonable budgets. One of the schemes includes NEMMP (The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan). This was launched in 2013. It is a government mission that is working for faster adoption of electric vehicles in the nation. It is supposed to save 9500 million litres of crude oil. This scheme also has several benefits, such as promoting charging infrastructure, and supply-side incentives. Another scheme includes the FAME India Scheme. This scheme focuses on some of the major areas such as Technology Development, Demand Creation, Pilot Projects, Charging Infrastructure etc. There are also EV policies that are subjective to different states in India. These policies include monetary subsidies, road tax, vehicle registration fees and low loan interest rates etc. Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Delhi are the top three states/regions for registration. All these schemes aim to benefit the automobile industry, economy and the country. They have enhanced strategies to improve the quality of air in cities alongside reducing India’s oil import dependence and enhancing the use of renewable energy and storage solutions. They also benefit citizens as the aim is to promote ease of living and to upgrade the quality of life. It also increases employment opportunities across a range of skill sets involving the making of EVs. They have persevered to law down a strategy which will enable India to leverage upon its size and scale to establish a competitive domestic manufacturing ecosystem for electric mobility.
